Subject: Sure Seal Direct Burial Cable
There are many opinions on which type of direct burial product best lends itself to the underground wire environment. Some prefer copper, some like “cable in conduit” and others use standard direct burial aluminum. Copper is generally the most expensive of the options due to its current raw material costs. Cable in conduit is used in many regions because the HDPE conduit gives it more protection from accidental nicks from shovels, rocks and other trench debris as well as pin holes caused by lightning strikes and gophers. This is an expensive option. It is also very difficult to find cable failures inside conduit with cable locators. The least expensive is standard direct burial aluminum. However, it is more susceptible to failure due to nicks from shovels, rocks, lightning strikes and gophers.
I am pleased to announce that Irrigation Components will be the Premier Agricultural Irrigation Distributor of SureSeal quadruplex direct burial cable in the USA. SureSeal is a unique product that addresses many of the hazards facing buried wire. During the manufacturing process, a visco-elastic sealant is strategically placed in channels between the inner and outer layers of the insulation. These channels are independent from each other and around the entire circumference of the cable. If a nick occurs, the sealant is released to encapsulate the damaged area. SureSeal has been used for many years by public utilities with tremendous success.
ICII saw the opportunity to bring SureSeal to the irrigation industry to save customers time and money verses traditional industry methods. The price of SureSeal is slightly more expensive than standard direct burial quad aluminum but much less expensive than either Cable in Conduit or direct burial copper. SureSeal is available in aluminum quad sizes from 6AWG through 500 MCM. Please contact our office for samples or more information on Sure Seal!
